Our Vision
To provide experience and learning that will assist students to have meaningful, satisfying work and home lives as family members, leaders, employees and citizens.
Our Programming
Transition Plus supports students by encouraging growth in the 3 transition areas established by Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA): Post-Secondary Education, Employment and Independent Living.
Every student at Transition Plus has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) which states each student’s performance and individual needs and guides the development of their programming. A schedule of classes is developed each semester based on student interest and IEP goals and objectives.
Students participate in approximately 30 hours of instruction, employment and independent living activities each week. The mix of programming varies from student to student but may include: competitive employment assistance, curriculum based vocational training, social service access, court/legal obligations, and other transition related community activities that can be counted as part of a student's programming. Classes and activities led by licensed school staff are held at the Transition Plus site as well as in dozens of community locations. Community sites include work and volunteer experiences that are built into student schedules for a full semester at a time. They also include an ever-changing variety of community resources and recreational sites that students visit with their teams.
- English Language Learner [ELL] Services - The goal of the English Learner Department is to build the academic language and content knowledge of our students so that they are able to successfully navigate secondary content classes and develop their skills so they are prepared for continuing their education or entering into a career after they graduate. Transition Plus has a licensed ESL teacher and trained bilingual staff that help students with English Language Development in “push-in” as well as collaboration and co-teaching with other teachers.
